This is a report from guest Will who fished Eagle Canyon on Tuesday:We had a great time yesterday despite the rain and wind during the first half of the day. Everyone picked up fish and the weather cleared up during the latter part of the day.  I had about a dozen fish on and landed about half of them. Sam was great with giving us tips, providing hot and cold drinks and assisting with the net. We will try to return again next year.

Heavy rain pounded the Southern Oregon Coastal rivers this past week, totally blowing out all of our winter steelhead rivers.  When they drop back into shape, fishing should be excellent!

We had a snowy and cold yet productive day on the Trinity today.  We had a couple hours of dry weather in the morning, but the snow caught up with us by 1pm.  By the time we got off the river at 2:30pm it was coming down about and inch an hour.  The river is in good shape today all the day down to Douglas City.  It's a nice green color.  Bryan made the most of his day by landing two nice fish, losing another at the net, and having a couple other brief encounters.  By lunchtime we had the propane heater going full blast. It's hard to say what shape the river will be in this weekend.  We're supposed to get 2-3 more inches of rain over the next few days.  That could very well melt all the snow that fell today and turn the river into a muddy mess.  Or not.  There might be decent fishing on the top two floats or even down to Indian Creek.  If the river stays fishable, you can expect good fishing.  It seems like there are plenty of fish around.

Was part of a group fishing weekend on the Trinity.  Had the good fortune to guide Ray from Napa on Saturday.  The weather was a little rough, but we had a great day and hooded a few steelhead and one nice brown.  The group had a lot of success over the weekend.  Lots of fun.

Despite having a slow start this season, anglers are tying into 5-10 lbs fish daily. Having patients and presenting the fly in manner that won't spook the fish is critical. Small nymphs (size 14-18 flashback PTs) and (size8-14 buggers in various colors) on a slow retrieve are getting consistent hookups. Dress warm and fix those pinholes in your waders- the water gets cold quick!

River conditions are ideal on the Trinity right now.  The river is high and clear, but not too clear.  Fish are on the move and we're getting them in bunches when we find them.  Today was really tough all morning.  We made a lot of great drifts through great water without much action.  From 2pm on it all paid off, though.  The afternoon was excellent with 6 or 7 adults ending up in the net and others getting away.

Fishing is very good on the Trinity right now.   I had a great day with Don and Ken today.  We saw almost no other anglers and we put a lot of fish in the net.  We landed a couple bigger fish today, too.  Most of the fish are 3-5 pounds right now but we landed two in the 7-8 pound range today.  Lots of wild fish today, too.

The Trinity River fished very well for us today.  The river is a little high but still very clear.  There are a lot of fish in the system and we found them throughout our long float today.  We are catching a mixed bag of wild and hatchery fish right now, mostly 3 to 6 pounds.  Conditions look to remain excellent throughout this week.  We have steady rain in the forecast for the next two days, but not so much that the river will blow out.

We had our toughest Opening Day ever today.  The weather was very cold and there was even a little bit of ice around the edges of the lakes in the morning.  Even though the fish were not very active, seven of the eight anglers in the party managed to land at least one fish.  Our host Sam says that pink egg patterns were the best fly of the day.

Today's challenge was staying warm.  The cold was quickly forgotten when Pat hooked and landed a nice hatchery fish on her fish cast.  The day started great - but turned into an amazing  day of steelheading every angler (and guide) dreams of! The flows have come down slightly and the water is clearing, but that will change with this next series of storms that are headed our way.  Pray for rain, book your first steelhead trip of the new year, and dress warm!   Tight lines

Had the pleasure yesterday of guiding Phil & David from San Francisco on the Trinity. It was cold but not quite cold enough for your guides to freeze up. Steelhead weather. Using spey and switch rods we immediately hooked up with a nice adult hen. With several brought to the net and many more lost, it's a matter of covering water and finding them.

It was a very cold day and the fish didn't seem very interested in eating, but Craig and his son Matt from Santa Barbara worked hard and managed to hook three steelhead.  The flows are very fishable, and the water is very clear.  Looks like we have a short break before the next series of storms hit NorCal.  2016 is only a few days away - it's time to book your first steelhead trip of the year!

The Steelheading this past week has been Solid, Cold  & Rainy weather has bumped the flows up, got the fish moving and has added to the overall Steelhead experience. We are seeing a good push of hatchery Hens now with a few wild ones thrown in, they're following the push of Bucks we saw a month ago. The Winter run should start to show after the Holidays .

What do you do after an epic day on the Trinity - you try to duplicate it on the Lower Sac.  The day started out rainy and cold, but once the temps started to warm - so did the action.  The numbers weren't anything special, but the fish definitely were!  If you think the Sac shuts down this time of year - think again!

Our day started out amazing, my client Pat hooked and landed several really nice fish before lunch.  The day started out so amazing - but then it completely shut down after lunch.  The approaching storm and dropping temps shut down the bite.  We still had an epic day of steelheading!  The recent storms have brought in good numbers of fresh fish.  The good news is  - the extended forecast is calling for several days of much needed rain!  Keep your fingers crossed and start thinking about booking your New Years steelhead trip!

We just hosted a great group from the Diablo Valley Fly Fishers the last two days.  Gino Bernero, Randy Hamann, Jay Cockrum and I guided these folks on many different floats, from Lewiston down to Junction City.  Day 1 was pretty tough with rain all day long and high flows.  Nonetheless, several club members hooked fish.  Day 2 was excellent with the river dropping and clearing.  Club member and trip leader Rich and I shared a pretty amazing day with lots of hookups and tons of solitude on the river.I haven't seen fishing this good on the Trinity in several years.  If your schedule is flexible you should get up here and fish with one of our guides this coming week.  It should be awesome!

In steelhead fishing standards, fishing has been excellent. We have a lot more fish in the system thanks to the rain we've been having. There's been some really nice fish brought to the net lately. The fishing should continue to be good throughout the next couple months as we should start seeing the winter run steelies.  Matt Murdough landed a mix of hatchery and wild fish, with a few exceptionally big ones breaking off. Matt did really well going 3 for 3 days tying into fish.

Fishing continues to be excellent on the Trinity River.  We are getting regular doses of rain and that keeps the fish here on the move and on the bite.  The next couple weeks should bring more outstanding fishing.  We are catching a mix of wild and hatchery fish.  Most fish are in the 3-6 pound range but we're hooking fish in the 8 pound plus range almost every day.
