Here are a couple of shots of Greg with the Kern River Fly Fishers group. They fished the Lower Sac in the downpour on Friday and then fished Eagle Canyon on Saturday. The water was totally brown, the worst I've ever seen it, but the group still caught plenty of fish. It's amazing how trout can still feed in water that looks to us like it was no visibility.

Pete + son Peter did really well today at Eagle Canyon. We had perfect conditions with overcast and little wind. The guys stripped in small nymphs most the day and hooked into several nice sized fish in the 8-12 lbs range. |
The Cal-Shingle group had their work cut out for them with the wind+rain at EC but some fish were still caught. We tried all kinds of different flies -micro mays+midges fooled a few. |
I spent the afternoon stocking a bunch of huge fish at Eagle Canyon today. We have never had more fish or more big fish in the lakes than we have this year.
The view of Mt Lassen was outstanding today. There is a fresh coat of snow all the way down to about 5000ft. Not all trout come from a truck - but these ones did | Lots of low snow around Mt Lassen today

Our guest Ben from Chester forwarded this photo from his day at Eagle Canyon today. Nice fish!

This is a guest report from Ben who fished Eagle Canyon yesterday with 3 buddies:
"I had a great day fishing with our group yesterday. We did really well on the blood midge with a brass bead in the afternoon. The black midge worked on the small pond in the morning. We also got a couple stripping leaches." |
Here is a guest report from Dave who fished Eagle Canyon on February 8th:
3 of us fished ECL today, 2 in our party were ECL 1st timers.
Not much wind plus bluebird weather made it more challenging than usual.
We landed 9 fish between us plus the usual amount of LDR's.
Best fish measured 29 ½ inches and was about 13 or 14 pounds.
ECL, one of a kind fishery!! |
Here is a guest report from Will who fished Eagle Canyon on Tuesday: "We had a great time once again fishing the Eagle Canyon Lakes. The
weather was awesome and the fishing was good. Everyone in our group of 6
hooked into multiple fish with some in the 10 plus range. Fish seemed
to be keyed into dark leech patterns stripped in during the morning. The
bite slowed down around noon but picked up again in the late afternoon. By then, the fish were looking for nymph patterns (size 14-16) fished under an indicator. We picked up fish using pheasant tail nymphs, red copper johns and prince nymphs. The fish went back to looking for leech patterns during the last hour of fishing before sunset. We will certainly try to return again next year.- Will D." |
Here is a fishing report from Ron who fished Eagle Canyon on Saturday: "Great weather! Very slow fishing but VERY BIG FISH. Here are two of the 10 that our party landed." |
Eagle Canyon fished well on Saturday- the grab was good in the AM but slowed up a bit in the afternoon. Red copper Johns, San Juan worms+ midges worked swimmingly. You Pyramid Lake guys should check this place out! Troy with a Monster! | Judy got a nice rainbow all on her own!

Here is a guest report from Joe Jimenez, Outings Chairman for the Amador Flyfishers. They fished Eagle Canyon on January 18th.
"We arrived expecting heavy rain and strong winds all day long. We did get rain but not nearly as much as was forecasted. The wind turned out to be a light breeze for the most part so that was also a plus. The fishing started off slow in the morning with only a couple of fish landed. It took off in the afternoon. There were in excess of 30 fish caught. All were large but many were over 10 lbs. Everyone had a great time and all said that they look forward to coming back. Thank you for having us." |
Here are some photos from the Redding Project Healing Waters group that fished Eagle Canyon on Sunday. Nice fish guys!

I stopped in at Eagle Canyon today to visit with longtime guests John, Tom & Dean. The grab was pretty slow other than for about 2 hours mid-day. They made up for the slow fishing by landing some truly huge fish today. The best flies were a red blood midge size 14-16, zebra midges in brown size 16-18, and a small tan mayfly nymph size 16-18.

Here are some photos forward by Tony from Red Bluff. His group fished Eagle Canyon this past Saturday, January 6th. Tony said:
"Always a great time. The fishing was slow at times but steady all throughout the day. The fish seemed to attack our flies in flurries. As a group we hooked 25+ fish and landed about 18-20 fish. The largest about 10-12 lbs. We caught a surprising amount of fish on a size 14 gold hare's ear under an indicator. Very exciting hooking big fish on small flies. I was talking to the guys and we are already planning a trip for next year." Part of Tony's group is doing the Combo Special so they will be fishing the Trinity River with us, too. The combo special has a minimum of 4 anglers and you spend one day at Eagle Canyon and then another day on the Lower Sac or Trinity River with our guides. The price is $350 per person for 4 anglers, $325 per person for 6 anglers, or $300 per person for 8 anglers. |
Longtime guest Rocky from Woodbridge sent these photos from his trip to Eagle Canyon on Saturday. He said fishing was great!
|
Here are some photos sent from Steven and friends who fished Eagle Canyon last weekend. Looks like fun!
|
Longtime guest Ron had this to say about his two-day trip to Eagle Canyon: "The fishing was very good the first day and much slower the second day. The fish are getting bigger and bigger!! All of us caught fish both days and had a great time."
|
This report is from long-time Eagle Canyon guest Dave Earl, who fished yesterday:
"Stripping streamers was on fire in the morning, all 3 of us had quality fish landed within minutes. Later we had to switch to nymphs under an indicator to get grabs. We all landed about 10 fish each including a 10 pounder and a 12 pounder . I'm pretty sure the same 12 pounder was caught a second time about 2 hours later. Eagle Canyon: a one of a kind flyfishing experience!" |
