Good I spent a great day on the Lower Sac with Matt and Zach from El Dorado Hills. The guys were new to fly fishing the Lower Sac, but were quick and enthusiastic learners. Both guys had multiple hook-ups, hearty fights, and heart breaking moments with the ones that got away. Matt got a nice bow to the net and even though the weather was a little mixed, it was a really beautiful day. Matt's first Lower Sac Bow A beautiful day Not another soul in sight! |
Great Had a great time guiding Jason & Bret on the Lower Sac. The father/son duo brought several hard fighting rainbows to the net while having the entire river to ourselves. Sweet stuff. The egg grab is more prolific near posse while your normal good 'ol bread and potato nymphs work well around Anderson - below. (Client) Bret landing his first Lower Sac 'bow! |
Okay The conditions over the last three weeks on the Trinity have changed little, We have had a number of fronts push through but none have delivered much rain, we need inches not tenths ! With the low water both the Steelhead and anglers continue to be stacked up in a few locations making for some tough angling. Having said that any given day can produce ! Spey casting and swinging flies may open up more of the river to you and can offer less crowded fishing, may not account for more hookups but can make for a more pleasurable day ! One big rain event will change everything ! |
Okay Spent the day with John and Doug on the Yuba today. Fishing was a little on and off. We had a good number of grabs in the morning and netted two really nice rainbows, but by 11 am, the fish took the rest of the day off. Beautiful weather and great company more than made up for it. |
Good The Lower Sac fished pretty good for us today. We landed a few big 18-20 rainbows and decent numbers of small and medium-sized fish. The fish are moving back into normal trout water now that the salmon spawn and egg bite is tapering off. We picked up fish on a variety of trout nymphs and egg patterns today. The river has dropped to 4500cfs and will drop down to 4250cfs by Monday. |
Great The Trinity fished very well for us today. Mike and Alex landed several adult steelhead each. Alex, who is new to fly fishing for steelhead, is probably ruined for it after his experience today. He learned the casting and dead-drifting techniques quickly and was rewarded with 3 adults and 2 half-pounders in the net. Mike did very well also. Nice job guys! This past weekend was the busiest yet this season with tons of fisherman on the river. Today was surprisingly uncrowded. Mike's last fish of the day Mike with the first fish of the day Alex with one of many |
Andrew Harris will be at the Chico Area Flyfishers club on Wednesday Nov 11th. His presentation will be about the Pit River. The meeting starts at 7:30pm at the California Park Pavilion, 2365 California Park Dr, Chico. Andrew has hundreds of Pit River guide trips under his belt - come to the meeting and learn about this great California trout stream! |
Randy Hamann just had a cancellation for a Trinity River trip this coming Tuesday/Wednesday, Nov 10-11. Get in touch ASAP if you would like to book these prime dates! |
Great Fishing is back to great again on the Lower Sac. We boated really good numbers of rainbow trout the last two days. Fishing pressure has dropped dramatically now that the salmon spawn has slowed down and a lot of guides have moved on to the Trinity and other destinations. We only saw one other drift boat all day yesterday and just a handful today. There are still good numbers of salmon on redds and the trout are mostly focused on eggs. We actually caught a trout on a nymph today, believe it or not. The rainbows have been big fat and healthy with fish up to 18 landed every day. We landed a nice 20 trout today that was about 3 pounds. Mark with the big fish of the day Birthday Boy Pete with a nice one |
Great The last week on the Trinity has been great. I spent a few days on the lower section of the river swinging flies and working with clients on spey casting technique. While there didn't seem to be as many fish in this section of the river, it was nice to get out of the crowds and mayhem of the upper river. We even hooked into a few nice fish. Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday on the upper/middle river the nymph grab was on. The small amount of rain we got on Saturday has brought in a fresh pulse of grabby fish. There were a quality amount of adult steelhead caught this weekend. The only downside was the crowds. As November progresses we should see the fish spreading out more along with the hordes of anglers. Mark with a large wild buck. A nice job handling the fish! Stephen bombing a cast out there. Did some filming for an upcoming project with Trout Unlimited, check out that drone! Nice wild buck Kevin Carrie with some speed on his spey cast. My favorite fall colors Father and son duo Ted and Zach with Zach's first steelhead. It was a wild one! A birds eye view |
Great I had a Great day yesterday with husband and wife Hayden and Sara from Woodland. Fishing started a little slow but quickly picked up when we encountered a fresh push of 6-8 lb hatchery steelhead, all bucks ! I think the little bit of rain we have had recently is getting fish to move and currently there are good numbers from Lewiston to Pigeon Point. a beauty Great clients, Great fish Great Day ! |
Great I spent the last 3 days on Lewiston lake with Al & Emil, the fishing was stellar, most of the Rainbow's were in the 12 - 14 range with a few up to 16. Lewiston should continue to fish well this Fall and even into the Winter depending on water temps. If you don't have time this Fall, book a trip for this coming Spring, April can be OUTSTANDING ! Great Scenery Doubles were not uncommon Fish On ! |
We just had two cancellations for some prime November Trinity River dates. Randy Hamann is now available on Nov 10-11 and Gino Bernero is suddenly available for Nov 16-17. These are some of the most highly-requested dates for the Trinity River steelhead season. Call Andrew Harris at 888-481-1650 if you would like to pick up some of these dates. |
Good Fishing is good on the Lower Sac right now. The egg grab is good but the fish are a lot smarter and the grabs much quicker than earlier in the month. My clients Mark and son Matt from Reno both landed quality fish today in the 18-20 range. Mark knows how to hold a fish Matt is a fishing machine |
Okay Despite extremely low water fresh steelhead continue to trickle in to the Trinity, seems to be about a 50/50 mix of hatchery and wild. The flows have been UNDER 300 cfs in the Junction City, the lowest I think in more then a decade or more ! We've been boating a fair amount of adults considering the conditions. bad photo of a nice one ! |
Great We had a great day of wade fishing today on the Lower Sac. My clients Curt and Chris caught rainbows up to 18 on a variety of techniques. We spent most of the day swinging flies with light spey rods. That was the most productive technique, but we also landed fish on dry flies, hopper/dropper, and dead-drifted glo bugs. We landed a lot of fat, healthy 16 rainbows today. |
Good Here is a photo of Brian Kohlman and client Julia with her first ever Lower Sac rainbow. Great fish! |
Good Gino just forwarded this photo from the Rogue river - 2nd fish of the day. Advanced spey pose |
Great I spent the last two days guiding Danny and son Miles, 13 from the Napa area. This was Miles' first fishing trip and he learned the ropes very quickly. We fished up in Redding the first day and landed some really nice fish in the 17-19 range. Today we fished closer to Red Bluff. We caught a LOT of fish today, but they were more medium-sized. It was a really fun day with tons of action and very few other anglers around. Miles with a great wild rainbow trout Miles' first fish of the trip Danny with a good firm grip on a nice rainbow |
Good I guided Rob and Topher from Sacramento today. We started the day with a drift from Bonnyview to Anderson and then finished the day with an afternoon fishing around the Sundial Bridge. Fishing was mixed but when we found fish, they came in numbers. We had most of our encounters in three different spots. Rob had multiple hook-ups on the day getting two really nice 16+ inch rainbows to net. Topher hooked up on multiple fish and had an epic battle in the last minutes of the drift with a dandy that broke our hearts. |
