Fall River: , by Dax Messett: Nor Cal is fishing pretty good: 4 stars

After an amazing winter steelhead season on the Southern Oregon Coast and Olympic Peninsula, I came down to start my trout season at our Confluence Outfitters home base in the beautiful Fall River Valley.  Despite the drought, excellent fishing opportunities abound in the intermountain area, particularly on Fall River, which is my favorite trout stream in the States.

Fall River really picked up the last few days after kind of a slow weekend.  Fish are everywhere, if you know where they are:)  The nymph grab was pretty insane between 11 and 2, the streamer grab was so so, the dry fly fishing is sporadic, but will pick up soon.  If clouds roll in, look for solid PMD and BWO hatches.  Look for hexes in early June this year...

The Pit River has been fishing fantastic, particularly in the late morning and evenings.

Hat Creek is fishing ok during the day, excellent caddis hatch in the evenings.

The McCloud is McCrowded during the weekends, but fishing great.  Go during the week if you can, or hire a Confluence guide to explore new water.
