Northern California: , by Mat Squillante: Summer Update: 3 stars Well, it's getting hot, which can put the fishing off. Fortunately, this hasn't been the case on the Yuba, which is coming into prime time hopper season. We've been getting some dry eats and some dry dropper grabs as well. Good hopper action will continue into September. Colin's had some good fishing with clients on both the McCloud and the Upper Sac. Mike Wright shared that the HEX hatch on Fall River is about done but fishing is still good throughout the day. Luke's been on the Lower Sac which was slow but he had a good day on the Trinity. You still have options despite the heat. GUIDE TIP: As the water warms, fish might need more time to recover from a fight – give it to them. Don't put the fish back and let it go. Hold the fish in the water, facing upstream, as long as it takes for it to recover. Rainbow trout will feed in water up to 70 degrees – this is their upper limit.
