Lower Sac: , by Luke Geraty: Double the fun on the Lower Sac!: 4 stars

Today's float featured sunny weather, cool breezes, and some monster trout! Keith and his son, Jason, joined me for a guided day on the Lower Sac and we rolled the dice for some big fish and came up feeling lucky! The morning definitely gave us a "Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner" type of vibe as we hooked a fair amount of those large rainbows that seem to know that trout trolls are supposed to live under bridges (or at least near them). Landing these fish can be challenging, but Keith and Jason both paid their dues (lost some fish) and were rewarded with some big fish too! We put five 20inch+ fish in the net today, including one that was close to 23 inches long and a million inches deep (seriously, it had some REALLY thick shoulders). Other than a couple of boats early in the day, we had the river all to ourselves and took advantage of the excellent weather with very little smoke. Bug wise I was surprised to see massive amounts of caddis coming off the river when we first arrived as well as a bunch of mayflies, though these were NOT what the trout were eating (surprise, surprise). I saw a handful of fish sip (or attack) bugs on the surface, which always tempts one to throw some dry flies but it's hard to improve on the indicator rig on the Lower Sac, so we kept at it! If you're interested in knowing what was hooking these trout trolls, feel free to book a trip with me and I can show you ??Let's go!!!
