Lower Sac: , by Luke Geraty: GGACC smashing big trout under a bridge!: 4 stars A group of anglers came up from the Golden Gate Angling & Casting Club to jump in some Confluence boats and chase some rainbow trout! My guys were both “newish” to fly fishing but I think were sandbagging me a little bit because both could cast and mend just fine! Of course, the Lower Sac is a big tailwater and it can be pretty forgiving. So much so that though we lost the first eight fish we hooked, we managed to still put some REALLY nice fish in the net, and plenty of them too! The bugs still continue to be caddis and mayflies and every once in awhile I’ll throw some attractor type of patterns to do some exploratory fishing, ha ha! I’ve also been fishing hard and changing depths throughout the runs I’m in, going anywhere from a standard 7 foot drop to, *gasp*, a 10 foot drop! “Lift those arms up so we can put this fish in the net” becomes the rally cry when using the long drop. It seems crazy but it has been working well at certain spots.
It’s a huge honor to have dudes from the GGACC with us because that club has been a great resource for people looking to get into fly fishing down in the Bay Area. And the Lower Sac is a great place for those people to get out, learn some things, and catch some stellar trout! Next 10 open days for Luke Geraty: Nov 22, 26, Dec 3, 4, 5, 6, 11, 18, 19, 20 |
