Lake Oroville: , by Ben Thompson: Bass On The Fly: 3 stars Our winter bass fly fishing season on Lake Oroville is upon us. Headed out to the lake today and it was a lot of fun. We caught three species of fish- primarily spotted bass, a catfish and a smallmouth. Our primary target is the spotted bass and the most effective technique today was the float n fly. We also caught some fish stripping. If you have not tried it before, the float n fly method is fun, interactive and certainly not boring. There is a lot of casting, mending, covering water, and plenty of hooksets. The way we fish it is designed for action and high success rates. If you want to try something new, Lake Oroville is very scenic, it is a unique style of fishing, unique species, and is a lot of fun. I had a lot of guests that came out last season and had a blast. It is also only a little more than an hour away from Sacramento and a little over 2 hours from the Bay Area. December and January are great months to find quality fish out here and I would be happy to get you out, I have availability. This is a beginner and kid friendly experience and fun for anyone. Feel free to email me if you have any questions about this trip.
